We provide a long-term housing model that can be up to three years and provides our residents with enough time to successfully rebuild their lives and have demonstrated results in the following key areas:

Therapeutic support, including ongoing in-house groups meetings, one-on-one support, and peer connections, fosters a positive, healthy community.
Place of Refuge provides one of the healthiest food menus in Metro Vancouver. Our menu planning has been approved by a Vancouver Coastal Health Registered Dietician.
Education and employment coaching and supports.
Demonstrated results which inform healing takes place in social spaces.
Place of Refuge provides a room & board model that does not put financial strain on residents as they rebuild their confidence and prepare re-entering the education system or workforce.
Community-based model of positive peer support.
Our Residents regularly attend community support groups, including Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Smart Recovery, Churches, and Vancouver Coastal Health Services.
Life skills support such as having residents involved in menu planning and weekly grocery shopping.
Our residents report that living at Place of Refuge is like having a family, and together they co-create a cooperative living environment, demonstrating positive results of healthy community-based living.
Senior staff hold a master’s degree and are internationally certified substance-use counsellors.
Our therapeutic approach to support services provides a pathway to healing, stability, and lasting change.
